Learn to Kayak
This course will give you the skills and confidence to further develop your skills on flat water. You’ll be amazed at how rapidly you progress from beginner to confident paddler. Using a general purpose kayak, you’ll be introduced to boat handling skills and safety/rescue techniques. By the end of the day, you’ll be ready to progress in this exciting sport.
No previous experience is needed to join this course.
Introduction to Moving Water
This session is spent at a site specific location at a venue convenient to you. The aims of the session will be build confidence in your own abilities by working on the basics of paddling on moving water.
Some flat water experience would be an advantage.
Guided River Trips
This will be a great day to remember.
It’s a day spent on a local river convenient to you, grades 1 to 4. During the session we can cover boat handling, safety and rescue skills, or just go for a paddle! All this and you’ll spend your time in some of the best river locations in Britain.
Pre-course experience: you should be a capable paddler on flat water at about 2 star standard.
3* White Water Award Training
This training is spent developing your boat handling skills to the standard of your needs.
By the end of the session you will know just where you are compared to the BCU 3* syllabus and you will take away with you an action plan for your own paddling development.
1-3* Award Assessments
The BCU star awards are an excellent way to gage your person performance progression in paddlesport. 2* is also essential if you are thinking of progressing onto the BCU coaching scheme.
1* (Generic) – The 1* award is a clear stepping stone to becoming a paddler.
2* (Canoe & Kayak) – This is an improvement award that helps you to develop fundamental paddlesport skills on flat water. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desired movement of the boat and developing an understanding into how the paddle, boat and water interact.
3* (White Water) – Successful performance at his level indicates that you can consider yourself an intermediate kayaker, as you will be able to paddle on moving waters. You will be able to do this is a competent manner as part of a led group and have the knowledge and ability to help the smooth running of a trip while being led down a section of grade 2 river.
